Keyshot Not allowing non-Solidworks model imports

Using a license from work, for work, and for some reason, on the devices I have it installed on (2) only allow Solidworks files to be imported, no .obj or .fbx, or anything other than like, .prt. Someone else using the same license has the functionality on their computer, but it doesn’t give the option on mine. Any ideas on why this could be happening/how to fix it? It’s not even apparently a version thing, does the same thing on Keyshot 11 and Keyshot 2024.1, so I have no idea.

The only reason I can think of is that the version you installed is the Solidworks edition: KeyShot for SOLIDWORKS Edition Available Now

So even with the right license you will still be limited since the installer simply is different.

Ok, that makes sense. It was annoying trying to find where to get the installer when trying to set up a new device, and it does say for the program when it’s open, “Keyshot 2024.1 for SOLIDWORKS”.
Do you know where I could find an installer that isn’t this weird Solidworks edition? Thank you so much, this has been driving me crazy!!

I can imagine it’s a hard thing to figure out. I never knew that version existed actually but someone at Luminaries once mentioned it.

The latest download you can get from: Download KeyShot, KeyVR, and KeyShot Network Rendering | KeyShot

Old and new versions. It will download 2024.1 currently and I think 2024.2 is around the corner.

ok, so I tried that, going to that site, it hit me with “no results found” which is weird, but I just downloaded 2023.3 from here https://www.keyshot.com/keyshot-studio/previous-versions/
Installed it, activated license through serial number, same thing. Says the license type is Solidworks, and it then turns into the open window being “Keyshot 2023.3 for SOLIDWORKS”. Again, this license VERY MUCH is Keyshot Pro or better, even without this nonsense (on another computer) it shows the ability to import other files just fine, and I can use features like keyframe animation/material graph/render queue/model sets, which according to Keyshot 10 documentation (https://media.keyshot.com/doc/comparison/KeyShot_10_Comparison.pdf) should validate this. Any idea why this is still happening?

Hey Nick,

That page I shared mention this:

What’s the difference between KeyShot Pro and KeyShot for SOLIDWORKS?
KeyShot for SOLIDWORKS brings you all the features of KeyShot Pro. It is limited only to the import of SOLIDWORKS files (.sldprt, .sldasm).

You’re right it is basically a Pro but a difference is that it can’t be used to import other files.

I guess it’s also cheaper than the actual Pro else a limitation like that would be odd. Looking at the site Keyshot has a new logo and appearance. As you mention, the download page seems also unavailable for me at the moment.

Yeah, that makes sense. The thing is that it doesn’t make sense because, as I stated earlier, the same license on another setup doesn’t have this problem. Open Keyshot, try to import, everything is there. Open my installations (3 different computers and have tried across 3 different versions) and it seems convinced I should only be available to import Solidworks files. image
No “it’s certainly a for Solidworks license”, no “wrong installer”, something is just going wrong when I try to install it. Still, anything I’m missing? Regardless I’m gonna try and contact official Keyshot support, just in case.

Edit: I think the problem was found.
I asked the person in question who has the installation I mentioned, that works just fine. Turns out, the Pro one around here was on a subscription, not passed around on a Serial number like I thought. I assume whoever first had it set up for me must have just done the wrong license? Either way, this should now fix itself quickly!

Ah, well at least that makes the cause clear. I guess by contacting support there must be some way to change/upgrade your version or serial.

Everything is fully working now. The pro license seems to be for Keyshot 11 only, so I got that now, and it actually shows up as being a pro license. This have been driving me crazy for days, I’m just glad it’s done.

Nice! But such things can be quite frustrating.
